In a significant and sensitive move, the BCCI has chosen not to hold any opening ceremony for IPL 2026. The decision is linked to the tragic stampede incident that occurred during RCB’s title celebrations in 2025, which resulted in multiple deaths.
As a result, there will be no pre-match entertainment or cultural performances before the opening game at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. Instead, the tournament will begin directly with the match between defending champions RCB and SRH on March 28.
Officials stated that this move reflects respect and solidarity with the affected families. However, to maintain the celebratory spirit of the league, plans are being considered for a grand closing ceremony at the end of the tournament.
