A legal complaint has been filed against Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya after India’s victory in the T20 World Cup 2026 final against New Zealand at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The complaint was submitted by Pune-based advocate Wajed Khan Bidkar at the Shivaji Nagar police station.
According to the complaint, several videos of the victory celebrations went viral on social media showing Pandya celebrating with the Indian tricolour draped over his shoulders while dancing and running on the field. The complainant alleged that during the celebrations, Pandya was also seen lying on a stage with his girlfriend while the national flag remained wrapped around him.
The lawyer argued that such actions may violate the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act, 1971, which requires citizens to treat the national flag with dignity and respect. He requested the police to take legal action against the cricketer for allegedly disrespecting the flag.
Police officials have acknowledged receiving the complaint but have not yet confirmed whether a formal case or FIR will be registered. Meanwhile, the incident has sparked debate on social media, with some criticizing Pandya’s actions while others say the celebration was taken out of context.
