The United Nations Security Council adopted a resolution criticizing Iran’s military strikes against countries in the Gulf region. The resolution, introduced by Bahrain and supported by more than 130 countries, states that Iran’s actions violate international law and pose a serious threat to global peace and security.
According to the resolution, the attacks targeted several Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states and also affected civilian infrastructure, leading to damage and casualties. The Security Council emphasized its commitment to protecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the affected countries and urged Iran to halt further aggression.
The measure passed with 13 votes in favor, while Russia and China abstained from voting, allowing the resolution to be adopted. The resolution also called for an end to hostilities and urged all parties to reduce tensions in the region.
The development comes amid a broader regional conflict involving Iran, the United States, and Israel, which has already affected global shipping routes, energy supplies, and oil prices. International leaders fear that continued escalation could further destabilize the Middle East and impact the global economy.
